“Man stands face to face with the irrational. He feels within him his longing for happiness and for reason. The absurd is born of this confrontation between the human need and the unreasonable silence of the world.”
- Albert Camus, The Myth of Sisyphus
As an artist, it is important, in my opinion, to explain not what I do, but why I do, with words that will describe the base of my need to act as an artist - a creator - and the philosophy around it.
I find myself living through a veil of a nostalgic energy. There are many things that contributed in this, with one being the fact that I have two fatherlands. The absence, not being there but being here and being here but not there changed my perception of one's roots, of identity and time.
Nostalgia is time and at the same time nostalgia is timeless. There is an absurd realisation of time and its relation to individual and social spirituality, memory and history.
I act (document, research and eventually create) through this philosophy of existentialistic observation and I approach thematics that go around the historical sphere and involve spiritualistic elements using media like photography (prints), video and installations.
Beyond that, independently from what I mentioned above, I also work as a photographer. A photograph can revise the concept of dimension, referring to the relation between object, space and shadow as well as "hold" the space visually and not physically. I'm fascinated by the simplicity of the medium and its ability to aesthetically "translate" what I see and how I see it in an image approachable by everyone.
