Installations / 177 days of sunlight
one-hundred and seventy-seven gold leaves on glass (ongoing)
Gold is a colour with many symbolisations and it is frequently used in churches to decorate icons, walls and objects.
It stands in for the luminosity of Christ and the other-worldliness associated with saints. It is symbolic of the colour of the sun and is associated with daylight and the energy of the divine, the use of it in religion emphasises a preciousness and immortality. In this work, I minimalise the use and meaning of Gold and detach it from its religious nature. I place gold leaves carefully on a glass surface and emphasise the most simple and profound meaning they have, the light.
